Welcome to our website – and to learning more about our work. Jobtrain Salone was created in 2010 in response to the urgent need to address the problem of high youth unemployment in Sierra Leone and to work in line with United Nations Millennium Declaration to “Develop and implement Strategies to give young people worldwide a real chance to find a decent and productive work”.

Youth unemployment in Sierra Leone remains a serious problem despite the remarkable progress being made by the government and people of Sierra Leone and with support from the international community.

The youth population is estimated about one third of the country population and over 60% are unemployed in a country without social security protection for the unemployed. As a result, young people and other vulnerable groups are wallowing in abject poverty, feeling neglected and marginalised.

Aside from the potential threat to peace and stability of the nation, high unemployment is the root cause of poverty in Sierra Leone and creates the perfect breeding ground for a raft of compounding problems including armed robbery, political thuggery, poor health, drug abuse, prostitution and increase in HIV/AIDS.

The future of Sierra Leone rest in the hands of our young people of today -with your support , together we can bring about life changing opportunities for the young unemployed, disabled people, young women and those at risk of exploitation, ex-combatants, former child soldiers, school drop-outs, ex-prisoners and those at risk of re-offending, and the thousands of illiterate youth roaming the streets hopelessly.
